Competitive orchid growers are coaxing their plants into the best condition in lead up to the Natal Orchid Society’s 2017 Orchid Show on the weekend of 16th and 17th September in Durban North.
“Avid orchid fans will be spoilt with the fabulous variety of hybrids and species, currently in prime condition, which will be on display for judging,” says Melanie van Greunen of the Natal Orchid Society. “Plants such as oncydiums and dendrobiums, which are all coming into flower, will be vying for top spot.”
The venue for the spectacular show is the Parkhill Bowling Club, off Umhlanga Rocks Drive in Durban North. Doors open to the public from 10am to 4pm on Saturday 16th September and from 9am to 3pm on Sunday 17th September.
A selection of orchids will be on sale for keen enthusiasts wanting to add to their collection. Potting demonstrations will be held on both days with orchid experts will be on hand to offer advice on how to get the best out of these beautiful plants. A beautiful selection of orchids will be raffled with tickets available on both show days.
Refreshments and light lunches will be on sale in the tea garden. Admission is R15 for adults and there is no charge for children under 12.
Existing orchid growers, or anyone interested in owning and nurturing these beautiful plants, are invited to attend the monthly meetings of the Natal Orchid Society.
