There will be no medals or prize money for the cyclists competing in the FirstRand TransAfrica Adventure – only the fact that they have played their part in changing and uplifting the lives for a handful of children – children who call Ingane Yami Children’s Village home.
Ingane Yami Children’s Village is all about restoring the family unit to raise children who are healed, whole, valued, loved and nurtured, and where a carefully-selected foster mother cares for six children who are placed together to make up a family unit. Included in the village community are 25 homes, a community hall, sports field, clinic, school and other facilities – aimed at bringing purpose to the children’s lives.
Cycling the gruelling 600km from Cedarberg to Shongweni, the 17 riders will have only one goal in mind – to bring meaningful change and transform the lives of the children staying at Ingane Yami Children’s Village. Each rider has committed to raising a minimum of R20 000 that will go towards establishing an education fund for the Village. The overall goal is R600 000.
