The team from Shell Hillcrest (on the corner of Old Main and Stonewall Road) have embarked on a public safety campaign to encourage motorists to heed warning signs. A petrol station is an extremely volatile environment, with an average of 50 to 100 000 litres of fuel stored in tanks under the site. “There’s a one in a million chance of those vapours igniting,” says Hillcrest Motors owner Dave Douthwaite. “Don’t be that one!”
Keeping safe on the forecourt is simple:
- Reduce your speed
- Switch off your car
- Do not use your cell phone
- Do not smoke
