August, 2010. The hot sardine action on Durban’s beachfront has picked up again. According to the KZN Sharks Board’s Mike Anderson-Reade there’s been plenty of action between Blue Lagoon and Ushaka beach, with one major netting already.
Latest report from the KwaZulu-Natal Sharks Board (August 23): “We suspected that the activity may have moved off, however this morning shoals of sardines were once again present along the entire Durban beachfront. Three successful nettings took place place before midday. Two nets of 100 baskets and one net of 17 baskets. Very difficult to see the fish due to grey overcast skies.
“Bathing status off Durban remains closed. Both Anstey’s and Brighton beaches are open. All north coast beaches with the exception of beaches in the Ballito Bay (due to whale carcass) area are open. We will be reinstalling the gear at Salt Rock tomorrow. ”
