October 18, 2011. Power outages will strike the northern parts of Durban on Thursday, October 20, due to the final stages of construction of a substation in the Parlock area. Outages will occur between 9am and 2pm. The construction is being done to replace old cables with new ones for greater efficiency.
Thabo Mofokeng, eThekwini Municipality spokesman said it was a normal maintenance issue, which had to done to improve service to these sectors north of Durban. “We‘re just pleading with residents to bear with us during this period,” said Mofokeng.
Areas likely to be affected by the outages to some degree include Newlands East, Newlands West, Sea Cow Lake, Parlock, Bakerville, KwaMashu, Umzinyathi, Ntuzuma, Inanda, Lindelani, Avoca and Springfield Park. – By Mbuso Mkhize
