Have you noticed people loitering around the railway line? This is not only an eyesore, but could also serve to facilitate criminal activity in the area.
After a meeting to discuss criminal activity along the local railway line, key stakeholders, including SAPS, Transnet Security, Metro Police and Durban Safer Cities, introduced a series of anti-crime operations along the railway line between Kloof and Pinetown.
Agencies participating in the upcoming operations will be SAPS, Transnet Security, Metro Police, Durban Safer Cities, local security companies and local community members.
The first will be on Saturday, 18 February 2012. Those community members wanting to be involved are to meet at Stokers at 5am to be briefed. The second planned operation will be on Saturday 25 February 2012 at the same time. More operations will be planned on a regular bases after the first two have been completed.
Councillor Rick Crouch has encouraged community members to take part in these operations and “take ownership of their community back from the criminals and vagrants that inhabit the railway line and use it for a launching pad into the houses along the line.”
The police will be conducting stop and search of pedestrians and vehicles stopped within a pre-determined perimeter.
