Kloof residents turned out in droves on Saturday, 25 May to participate in the clean-up of the Kloof railway line organised by Ward Councillor Rick Crouch.

Residents of all ages, from small children to seniors, attended the clean-up which started at 9am and finished at about 10h30am. Many of the items collected were clearly remnants from house break-ins such as, electronic circuit boards, pieces of TV’s, computer pieces etc.
“More than 100 bags of trash were collected by the team, and a real difference was made in the area. We have to take back our neighbourhoods and show these criminals who is in charge. If we are apathetic the criminal element see that and take advantage of that apathy. I firmly believe in the broken window theory which is a criminological theory of the norm-setting and signalling effect of urban disorder and vandalism.
The theory states that maintaining and monitoring urban environments in a well-ordered condition may stop further vandalism and escalation into more serious crime. So if we take pride in our neighbourhoods it will have an effect on crime. Well done, Kloof,” said Councillor Rick Crouch.
“I would like to thank DSW in the Outer West for the assistance they provided in the form of black bags and the pick-up of the filled bags.”
