The rain and mist kept ER24 paramedics in KwaZulu Natal rather busy this morning – responding to various motor vehicle accidents throughout the region.
On the N3 heading towards Pinetown, a BMW crashed into the back of a bus before losing control and smashing into the Armco barrier. The BMW’s passenger sustained serious neck and back injuries. Specialised equipment and advanced life support intervention had to be performed on the elderly lady before she was transported to hospital in a serious but stable condition.
In Durban, motor vehicle collisions due to the wet roads and poor visibility occurred mainly on the N2 between the M7 and Higginson Highway. Whilst the fender benders caused no injuries, they did result in a serious traffic jam.
Pietermaritzburg-based paramedics responded to four accidents within one hour this morning, with six people sustaining serious injuries.
ER24 paramedics remind motorists to be extra careful on the road during and after rain, when loose oil surfaces and creates slippery conditions.
Also, in rainy and misty conditions, switch your headlights on and maintain a safe following distance from the car in front of you.
