The waiting is almost over. The eagerly awaited opening of Remo’s on the Village in Umhlanga, the sister restaurant to Remo’s in Flanders Mall, will take place sometime during the first two weeks of October.
Renzo Scribante has really done something special here from an aesthetic point of view. Red leather banquettes and mirroring inside, with black and white photos, the trademark vintage look of Remos Fratelli, covering the walls.
The bar is a work of art, all dark wood and steel, as seen in Balthazars in New York where Renzo went on a scouting trip to look for inspiration, and lovingly recreated, along with the sculptures of naked maidens above it that echo the prow of a ship
The outside area looks like a Parisian or Venetian cafe, all wicker and wood, and with the Ocean breeze and the umbrellas this really feels as if you are in Europe. Round the corner a bona fide Italian deli, with artisan breads, pomodoro tomatoes, dark wood and truffle oil jars lined up on shelves, means you can buy provisions as well. Watch this space, the bar has been raised, and I can’t wait to Christen the place with a nice big glass of Champagne.
