Road Closures for Amashova

By Famous Durban20/10/20223 Mins Read
Amashova

Full road closure ensures safety is paramount on Amashova route.

As the countdown begins for race day on 23 October 2022, the Amashova Durban Classic’s race organisers are ensuring that the safety of riders and supporters is top of their agenda. Traditionally attracting entrants from around the country, and even internationally, the Amashova race has become a highlight on the national cycling calendar and a major tourist attraction for the Msunduzi Municipality, eThekwini Municipality and KZN province.

Working closely with Durban Metro Police, SAPS, Msunduzi Traffic, RTI as well as other key safety and logistics companies, the Amashova team are determined to host another safe and enjoyable experience for cyclists who will ride with full road closure primarily on the famous Comrades Marathon route from Pietermaritzburg to Durban.

“Because safety is of paramount importance to us, there will be significant presence by the traffic authorities to ensure no cars enter the route while cyclists are riding from Pietermaritzburg to Durban. Further to this, we have partnered with Netstar to assist with tracking event vehicles. We encourage residents along the route to not only welcome and cheer on the riders of the various distances being raced, but we also thank them in advance for their cooperation and patience in obeying the safety procedures in place on race day. We are sharing the full road closure details with residents in the areas of the route and to the general public who might be wanting to use the Amashova route for travel purposes on Sunday 23 October so we can limit any inconvenience caused and help them to plan an alternative route,” says Annie Batchelder, Amashova’s Race Director.

With the route for the 106km, 65km and 38km road races being completely closed to traffic at different intervals throughout the day on 23 October 2022, below is a list of roads impacted by road closure that are linked to the Amashova route:
