Motorists who currently wind their way through Gateway into Prestondale, will soon have a more direct route, thanks to the opening of the intersection between Preston Drive, Autumn Drive and the extension of Meridian Drive.
By the end of July 2012, the extension to Meridian Drive, which is currently under construction (pictured left), will be open to traffic, greatly enhancing access from Prestondale, Umhlanga Crest and Izinga into the Umhlanga Ridge Town Centre/Gateway area.
This alternative access at the highway side (south west corner) of Prestondale works hand-in-hand with the recently opened extension of Wager Avenue into Izinga. This extension, which opened in December 2011, gives residents better access to Herrwood Drive via Mahogany Drive and Campbell Drive as well as to the existing Autumn Drive intersection.
David Jollands, development director for Tongaat Hulett, says the new network of roads will more efficiently link the communities to the north of Gateway with the surrounding shopping and medical facilities, schools, entertainment, offices and other commercial businesses.
