Criminals who broke into an uMhlanga Rocks business on Thursday 8th May soon understood the effectiveness of the uMhlanga Urban Improvement Precinct’s (UIP) operational structure and its close working partnership with SAPS Durban North when their attempts to flee were thwarted.
At 05h40 on May 8th, the front door of the SWEAT 1000 building in Beacon Rock, uMhlanga Rocks was broken into, and computers and equipment was stolen. As the suspects fled in a white Hyundai, the UIP security vehicle arrived on scene and rammed into the robbers’ car, preventing a getaway.
The stolen goods were recovered from the getaway vehicle and two suspects were arrested. Four UIP guards, contracted to Enforce Security, were injured in the accident and were taken to hospital where they were later released. SAPS were immediately called and responded swiftly.
The UIP management wishes to acknowledge the selfless act of bravery from the UIP/Enforce supervisor which led to these arrests and the recovery of the stolen goods.
“One of the functions of the UIP is to deter criminal activity, and although these robbers did perpetrate crime in a UIP area, they certainly now understand how effective our response is. This successful arrest by the UIP and SAPS Durban North sends out a clear message to would-be criminals,” said UIP project leader Brian Wright.
