Round Table Southern Africa has once again put their hearts and souls into a cause they have held close to their hearts for the past decade – National Bandana Day in aid of the Sunflower Fund.

This year a record of 42 300 bandanas were sold over a period of just 2 months, equating to a generous donation of R846 000. Of the total funds raised, the Namibian Round Table community rallied together to contribute R240 000.
“The prospect of selling 42 300 bandanas may seem like a huge feat for some, but when the Round Table community gets together to support causes like the Sunflower Fund, our passion makes it impossible not to succeed.
Projects like National Bandana Day fall directly inline with the Round Table ethos established in 1927, to meet around a table as friends and find ways to contribute towards welfare projects and fundraisers. Each project that we undertake is done in a spirit of passion, fun and social fellowship,” explained Guy Crichton, President of Round Table Southern Africa.
National Bandana Day has been one of Round Table Southern Africa’s projects for the past decade. Over this period, no less than R5 million has been contributed towards saving the lives of children suffering from leukemia through the education and recruitment of bone marrow donors.
Two years ago, Guy Crichton took it upon himself to run 560 kilometres in seven days for the ‘350 Miles for Marrow’ initiative. Along with Tablers, Danie du Preez and Riaan van der Walt, they raised R200 000 for that project alone. The passion of the Round Table Southern Africa extends even further with many of its members registered on the bone marrow registry and some who have already donated bone marrow to save a life when a match was found.
“We could not do it without the passion and commitment of Round Table Southern Africa and their record sales of bandanas this year. The commitment and determination they show towards saving lives is truly amazing,” said Shelley Windell on behalf of the Sunflower Fund.
