It was an awesome weekend for South African sport with Louis Oosthuizen winning the prized British Open golf tournament at St Andrews in Scotland, and local boy Jordy Smith pulling off a huge win at the top tier Billabong Pro surf contest at Jeffreys Bay. Smith also recently won the Mr Price Pro Ballito 2010 contest held on KZN’s north coast.
Oosthuizen led from start to finish becoming just the fourth South African to win this prestigious title, beating the nearest comeptition by an amazing seven strokes to claim by far the biggest win of his career.
Smith was crowned Billabong Pro J-Bay 2010 champion after beating seasoned competitor Bebe Durbridge in the semis and Adam Melling in the final. He is currently the number 1 ranked surfer in the world and leads the charge for the ASP World title.
