SA’s biggest blues fest returns!

By The Ridge Magazine07/10/20142 Mins Read
The Durban International Blues Festival promises to once again set the stage alight at Wilson’s Wharf this year.

The Durban International Blues Festival is the longest running annual blues festival in South Africa. During the six day period, blues fans show up to prove that Durban is the blues capital of South Africa – a feat the co-ordinators set out to create ten years ago when the first event took place at Wilson’s Wharf!

This year’s tenth birthday celebratory program runs from Tuesday 14th – Sunday 16th October and was devised by program director Will Wallace.

It includes free as well as paid for concerts (the latter from Thursday to Sunday – all R130 per person, per show) and sees a formidable line up of local, national and international artists, including: Sea Level, The Gloucester Blues Program, Sebastian Goldswain, East Coast Blues Band, Rob Thompson, Natasha Meister, the newly formed all-ladies Durban blues band Cinnamon Blue, Nik and Vuyo and Bobby and the Dynamites.

Cape Town blues favourites, Boulevard Blues Band and Blues Broers, add “spice” to the stage this year and blues fans are in for a mind blowing evening when these musicians take to the stage for the annual Fender evening which, as usual, takes place on the Wednesday evening.

Raoul and Black Friday are back by popular demand, as are Black Cat Bones, The Reals, Ant Cawthorne-Blazenby, Will Wallace, Keith Fordyce, and the formidable Barry Tompson.

International blues guests Donna Herula (USA), Raphael Imbert (France) and Charlie Love (USA) put the finishing touches on this formidable and classy blues program.

The event runs from Tuesday 14th October to Sunday 19th October at the usual Wilson’s Wharf venue in Durban.

Tickets are available from Computicket now and are all R130 for the paid-for evenings of Thursday 16th to Sunday 19th October, which will again conclude with the not-to-be-missed Blues Summit at 19h30 on the final evening.
