Hillcrest Conservancy urge you to report anyone buying or selling illegally-harvested Arum Lilies.
The beautiful lilies are illegally harvested in wetlands throughout the upper Highway, particularly in the areas of Springside Nature Reserve and Kassier Road.
Arum Lilies are ‘Specially Protected’ plants that play a vital role in nature’s life-cycle and are ecologically very important.
Constant removal of the blooms which produce their seeds has led to a drastic reduction in numbers and even disappearance in their natural areas.
As long as people continue to buy them, the harvesting will continue and we will eventually lose these breathtaking natural wonders.
If you are aware of any illegal harvesting, selling or buying of Arum Lilies, contact Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife on 031 274 1150. Hawkers can also be reported to Metro Police on 031 767 1222.
