A FROGGIE WOULD A WOOING …
Even if you don’t like frogs, they are useful. Environmentalists in the Kloof and Hillcrest areas are asking residents to record the sort of frogs they are seeing in their gardens.
Frogs are known to be good indicators of the health of an eco-system. A frog’s semi-aquatic life cycle and semi-permeable skin, makes it especially vulnerable to pollutants and other environmental stresses. They serve as an early-warning alarm system indicating potential threats to other organisms, including humans.
In a nutshell, lots of frogs equal a healthy eco-system and no frogs equal a bad eco-system. Researchers have identified 13 species in the Krantzkloof Nature Reserve.
