The Sharks, who’ve often struggled in crunch matches against the Bulls will have to shrug off a less-than-impressive performance against Western Province last week, when they face their old foes at the Shark Tank in the Currie Cup semi-final on Saturday.
Coach John Plumtree has called on loyal Sharks fans to turn out in numbers and help cheer their heroes into the finals.
Against Province, Plumtree tried out veteran Andre Pretorius at flyhalf but is likely to restore Patrick Lambie to the pivot slot, along with his season-long partner Charl McLeod, who has made such an impact this season.
Many Sharks fans will believe it’s high time The Bulls ate humble pie, particularly after some of the comments that have been flying around post the disappointing Western Province game last Saturday. And the Sharks will never forget the 2007 Super 14 final. Loosies Keegan Daniel and Willem Alberts are also expected to return, and could make a big impact for the Durban-based team.
The Sharks face a worrying distraction off the field as the KZN Rugby Union Transformation Committee Task Group served a memorandum on KZN Rugby Union officials this week. A copy of the document was also sent to Minister of Sport Makhenkesi Stofile.
The Transformation Committee Task Group accused the KZN Rugby Union of being “racist” and a lobby group of rugby officials has threatened to pull out all black players and clubs from the organisation if transformation is not speeded up. – Ridge Correspondent
