Officially opening on Thursday 4th August 2022 at 6pm and running till 2nd October, this exhibition celebrates women.
August is our national Women’s Month paying tribute to the courageous women who marched to the Union Buildings on 9 August 1956 in protest against the Apartheid regime’s extension of Pass Laws to black women. Since then women have been striving for equality, slowly and surely breaking down patriarchal barriers, and we will not stop. Women are connected. There is a sense of spirit which cannot be broken; we are a sisterhood. We are SISTAS.
We are the “rock” of the country,
“Wathint’abafazi, wathint’imbokodo” – “ You strike women, you strike a rock” – quoted from 10 Inspiring Singers, Writers & Artists – Imbokodo Women Who Shape Us – by Athambile Masola and Xolisa Guzula.
This collaboration of female and male artists pays tribute to our SISTAS, encouraging the sharing of stories, creating dialogue, bridging our cultural and gender differences, connecting us humans all the more – after all that is what it is to be a “SISTA”!

There will be an interactive area where visitors are encouraged to share their reflections on what it is to honour oneself, whatever gender or self-identity! We are all human, we are all worthy and we are all loved.
