It’s been a talking point among Spud fans and at pubs around town. Was Judge Edwin Cameron’s letter meant to enter the public domain? Well to add to the fun, following Cameron’s complaints about aspects of the Spud book in an open letter to producer of the Spud film, Ross Garland – and Garland’s subsequent response – Spud himself (in the form of author John van de Ruit) has given his side of the story.
In an amusing read, Van de Ruit playfully but respectfully argues his point, in a manner which you sense will defuse some of the tension around Justice Cameron’s complaint.
Here’s the response from Penguin Books CEO, Alison Lowry, and Durban author Van de Ruit’s much loved character, Spud Milton. Click here.
