Congratulations to the 11 Grade 7 girls who have won scholarships to St Mary’s DSG. They visited the school recently with their parents to meet staff and be welcomed into the St Mary’s family.
Mrs Sue Goldfeder, Head of St Mary’s DSG, High School, addressed the Grade 8, 2012 Scholarship winners. She said, “We congratulate these 11 worthy young recipients and are very pleased that they have chosen St Mary’s for their High School career.” Every year competition for scholarships to St Mary’s is very stiff and this year was no exception.
Altogether there were 68 applicants who were considered for an Academic Scholarship. Of these, 16 were called back for the second round (which is a panel interview). 17 applicants were considered for the Sport Scholarship and five for the Music Scholarship.
The two rounds of the Academic Scholarship are quite different in content and application. The first round is designed to test what has been learnt at school. The second round consists of a panel interview where St Mary’s looks for evidence of insight, analysis, lateral thinking and communication skills. Students who do well in the academic test do not necessarily do well in the interview. When allocating a Scholarship, whilst academics is the primary consideration, it is not the only one.
