STOCKVILLE ROAD CONSTRUCTION UPDATE
Ward 10 councillor Rick Crouch reports back on the progress of the Stockville Road Upgrade that started in February.
Crouch states that the work starts at Lehri Road and goes about 300-400 metres down towards the N3. This section is scheduled to be completed in June 2013 and immediately thereafter construction will commence on the next 300-400 metres and this section is expected to continue through to December 2013.
The purpose of the current construction is to widen Stockville Road at strategic points as determined by the engineers, this will make the road a little safer. The aim is to eventually have upgraded the complete road from top to bottom, this will happen as money becomes available in the budget.
The current construction is in no way related or linked to the much touted MR360 which will link the M13 and the N3, this is a separate eThekwini project where the MR360 is a national SANRAL project which has currently been put on hold.
There will be stop and go operations in place and at times there will be full road closures. The road will be closed at Zinnia Road at the bottom and Azalia Road at the top.
“I would urge those that can to refrain from using Stockville Road during this period, it will most likely be quicker to deal with the Fields Hill Traffic. During the construction period Stockville Road will be open to residents only.”
The contractors work day will be from 8am to 4pm and the road will be open to traffic during the evenings.
“I have requested that Metro Police monitor both Stockville and Azalia Roads as there are still a number of motorists speeding on both these roads and vehicles coming in the opposite direction are being sideswiped when the speeding vehicle drifts over the centre line.”
