Following the success of the first annual Varsity College Sports Experience which was held at the Durban North campus last year, this year’s Sports Experience, scheduled for 14 May promises to be more thrilling than the inaugural event The Varsity College Rugby Club will kick the event off at 13h00 when their U20 teams take on Harlequins followed by UKZN at 14h30. The 1st team match between Varsity College Rugby Club and UKZN will kick off at 18h00 and the teams will be playing for a chance to win the inaugural Fidelity Security Intervarsity Cup.

There will be fast paced KZN Hockey Super League action on the Riverside astro turfs as Varsity College 1st teams take on Riverside Hockey Club. These games will start at 16h00.
The hockey games that are scheduled to take place this weekend are:

- 16h00 Varsity College Hockey Club Ladies 1st Team vs Riverside 1
Students from all three of the Varsity College KZN campuses – Durban North, Westville and Pietermaritzburg – will be at the event in full force to support their VC rugby and hockey teams.
“At Varsity College we believe the student experience extends beyond the lecture room. Our philosophy focuses on the holistic development of the student and we encourage a healthy balance between studies, part-time work and participation in a variety of sports, social, cultural and community engagement initiatives,” says Carole Adam, National Sports Manager at Varsity College.
Under the guidance of new Head Coach Neil Kalify, the Varsity College Rugby Football Club (VCRFC) has experienced new growth. Neil, assisted by Jeremy McLaren (Back Line) and Keith Young (Forwards), has injected new life into the rugby club and provided a much needed blueprint to success. The players have put a challenging 2015 season behind them and have made a positive start to the 2016 season.
“Although we have had the most difficult opening fixtures and have the most demanding away fixtures of any club, both the Premier and Premier Reserve teams look likely to finish in the top 4 places. With students making up more than 60 percent of the club, there are also great expectations of a successful USSA campaign in July,” adds Carole Adam
Despite only having been established in 2014, the VC Hockey Club has flourished and has become a force to be reckoned with. While the Ladies Super League team managed a credible 5th spot in 2015, the Men’s Super League team conquered all to take top honours and the title of KZN Super League Champions in 2015. As the number 1 ranked team in KZN this year, they’re currently well positioned to make a successful defense of their title. The Ladies team has also been superb this season and are currently 2nd on the log. The VC men also had a hugely successful USSA campaign, winning the B section to gain promotion to the A section in 2016. The team look forward to a good showing again this year.
Event attendees can look forward to meeting the Sharks’ mascot, Sharkie, helicopter landing, great entertainment during half time as well as jumping castles for the young spectators.
