During the dark early rainy hours of Saturday morning, 18 February 2012, local community members along with Donovan Hurley from ADT and ward 10 councillor Rick Crouch joined Kloof SAPS members on an anti-crime operation along the Kloof railway line.
The operation started at Stokers in Kloof and proceeded down the line past the Willington bridge, and included the much complained about old Transnet substation, where the security guard was nowhere to be found.
It was a successful operation with many vagrants and pedestrians being stopped and searched.
Rick Crouch said, “I would like to commend and thank all the community members, along with Captain Mpungose and his members from Kloof SAPS who braved the steady rain to make the community a safer place for all.”
The criminal element using the railway line in Kloof as easy access to the surrounding homes needs to be put on notice that this railway line is no longer a safe haven for them.
“It has taken me months to set up the meetings, which included SAPS, Transnet Security, Transnet Property, Durban Safer Cities, Metro Police and the various local security companies. These meetings have now resulted in these operations, which will be ongoing,” said Councillor Rick Crouch.
