The third annual Tattoo-a-thon will make its debut across the globe on 6 June to run concurrently with the same event in South Africa.
Tattoo studios in eight cities around the country will host the event, with the aim of raising R750 000 for the Childhood Cancer Foundation South Africa (CHOC).
CHOC is a nationwide organisation that provides holistic support for children suffering from cancer and life-threatening blood disorders.
The list of the quality tattoo studios in South Africa include those in Cape Town, Joburg, Pretoria, Durban, Bloemfontein, Port Elizabeth, East London and Pietermaritzburg (international studios available on their website). The Tattoo-a-thon plans to raise the proceeds by generating a record 1500 tattoos across the world in one day.
“The overseas interest in Tattoo-a-thon from the past two years’ events clearly indicates that this event is wanted on the international stage. And we have therefore invited several studios to join in this year’s event,” says Manuela Gray, co-founder and owner of Wildfire Tattoos in Long Street.
The Tattoo-a-thon will feature talented tattoo artists from top studios in South Africa such as Wildfire Tattoos, Electric Eye, Metal Machine, and Fallen Heroes.
“All tattoos are a set size, based on an hour’s work, and will cost only R700. Participants can book their tattoo directly with the tattoo studio and can visit www.tattooathon.co.za to choose an artist of their choice,” says Gray.
CHOC’s goal is to improve the welfare and quality of care these children receive. As a non-profit organization, CHOC relies heavily on the generosity of individuals and some caring companies, as well as fundraising projects such as the Tattoo-a-thon which are essential in generating much needed funds. These vital funds allow them to continue providing support to the children and their families, and above all, to help them keep more than hope alive.
