ER24 paramedics were called to the N3 near the Pavillion, where a taxi had allegedly rolled on Wednesday morning. This caused considerable traffic congestion, with some commuters taking up to two hours to get through the area from Pinetown and Kloof.
When paramedics arrived they found the taxi on the Durban-bound carriageway lying on its side in the slow and middle lane. All of the patients had been ejected and were found lying in the road. One man had sustained critical injuries and needed immediate life saving treatment. He was place on an external ventilating machine and was taken to hospital by ambulance.
The remaining 5 patients had suffered various serious injuries, including broken bones, but they were all in a stable condition and transported to nearby hospitals by ambulance.
The driver of the taxi was found walking around the scene and was not injured. He did not need to go to hospital.
The taxi was the only vehicle involved in the accident.
