20 commuters were injured and one died yesterday morning when a fully laden taxi overturned on the N3 Durban-bound near the M13 turn-off.
ER24 paramedics travelling towards Durban came across the accident at the top of Key Ridge.
The taxi was lying on its side in the centre medium, with people trapped underneath it.
With help from members of the public, the paramedics pushed the vehicle onto its wheels to try and save the trapped commuters.
One person died in the accident, two were in a critical condition and required advanced life support intervention, seven were seriously injured and eleven sustained minor to moderate injuries.
The two critically injured commuters were stablised and taken to Albert Luthuli Nkosi Hospital. The others were taken to various hospitals in the greater Durban area.
It is unclear what caused the driver to lose control, but the relevant authorities from all departments were on the scene and will investigate the accident further.
