Wear your tekkies for a cause as part of Tekkie Tax Day 2014 on Friday 30 May.
Tekkie Tax is an annual fundraising campaign for a large mix of carefully selected welfare organisations, schools and institutions in South Africa. The campaign covers 5 different sectors: Animals; Basic Family Care; Children; Disability; and Education.
The Tekkie Tax campaign is conducted under the auspices of a Charitable Trust called “Legacy through Charity”.
Simply having an auditor on board unfortunately does not guarantee that a fundraising campaign or any other service will be run honestly. The structure of the Tekkie Tax campaign ensures that no one person or welfare organisation alone will control the campaign bank account.
Any service costs money, whether it is run internally or externally by an NGO. Combining the fundraising efforts of welfare organisations via this campaign saves huge amounts of money and ensures that the overall costs of running fundraising campaigns are reduced drastically.
There are ample examples of welfare organisations that have lost huge sums of money in trying to run a fundraising campaign themselves. Tekkie Tax allows even a small organisation with limited resources to participate in a national fundraising campaign, with 0% risk and maximum benefit.
Last year, Tekkie Tax exceeded all expectations by raising R2,4 million in their first year. More than 180 local welfare organisations benefitted from the proceeds which were distributed in November last year.
On Tekkie Tax Day you simply wear the big sticker on your lapel and put the small one on your cellphone to stay there for the rest of the year. Whatever your outfit is for the day, wear your tekkies!
Depending on where your heart lies, you can choose any of the five sectors you would like to support when buying your stickers at R10 each (and yes, you may choose more than one).
