The Garden of Hope and Healing is a new way of drawing attention to the terrible amount of violence and rape in South Africa. At the Botanic Gardens, marching and distress has been replaced with love as thousands of discarded plastic bottles are made into flowers.
Each flower will honour a victim and survivor of abuse, and you can even attend a workshop at Diakonia to learn how to make your own flower to plant. The sixteen days from 25th November to 19th December mark the period where we all try and work towards a world where violence against the weak has been erradicated.
Go down and have a look, there will be lots of other events in conjunction with this one, from Black Thursdays where you are encouraged to wear black to remember victims of violence, to an art exhibition at artSPACE.
The Botanic Gardens is such a beautiful place to visit, let’s all use it and in the run up to Christmas remember those less fortunate than ourselves.
