The Litchi Orchard is spreading its wings and doing more and more with their lovely venue. December is of course the beginning of litchi munching season, and it is being celebrated in a big way up at Sheffield Beach.
This Saturday the 1st December the Farmers’ Market takes place, with longer hours and the usual wonderful mix of music, food stalls, a relaxed atmosphere and lots of locally made goods to sort out your Christmas shopping.
On the 7th December the Night Market takes place with Music Under the Stars, my favourite. By then the bunches of litchis should be looking almost ready. On Saturday the 8th the lovely little Yellow Cafe is holding a wine tasting, which would be a lovely way to ease into lunch at Sage next door, and an afternoon’s shopping.
On the 14th December we are in for a treat when the first Concert at the Orchard takes place. With less and less venues for South African Artists and less airplay for our local bands, these concerts aim to showcase local talent and will become regular events. From Pierre de Charmoy to Nibs van der Spuy there is something for everyone, try and get along and support them, it will be a blast.
If that isn’t enough, the 15th December sees another Farmers’ Market taking place and then joy of joys, the 21st of December is the Litchi Festival. This legendary event celebrates the beginning of the litchi season, and where better to do it than a litchi orchard? Eat, drink and be merry. This really is an day you musn’t miss, and I will be giving you more details nearer the time.
