With a string of dramatic affairs in his wake and the subsequent divorce from wife Elin Nordegren, you’d think that Tiger Woods would be publicity shy at this time.
Well, you’d be wrong there. The notoriously secretive Woods has shocked all and sundry by entering cyberspace with a bang! While Tiger’s had a Twitter account for more than a year, it sat dormant, neglected by the “aloof” sultan of swing.
But Woods, who has often been targeted by the media for being reluctant to share his private life and reveal the man behind the greatest ever success story in golf, came out of hiding this week when he posted, “What’s up everyone? Finally decided to try out twitter!”
Swim star’s grovelling Twitter apology
The golf star has had a tough time on the course this year; now he’s working on his PR skills and even had an impromptu Q&A session with his Twitter entourage before speaking to media at the Chevron World Challenge held at Sherwood Country Club, Thousand Oaks, California.
Tiger’d better watch his Ps and Qs because now, more than ever, the world media’s focus will be on him, waiting for some mistake. Having been through an intense counselling programme and the painful break-up with gorgeous Elin, he’s rumoured to have cleaned up his act.
Better not let anything (intended or otherwise) slip Mr Woods, many a sports star has been on the wrong end of Twitter (see Kevin Pietersen, Phil Hughes, Stephanie Rice etc), to their great cost.
