The weather might be a bit unpredictable, but the Umhlanga Summer Carnival is underway and is encouraging us all to get outside and have some fun.
Running until the 23rd December, the activities are already underway, with the surf competition concluding today, and then a programme of events on the beach and in the surrounding areas.
The RNYC Umhlanga Rocks Festival keelers takes place this weekend as the oldest yacht club in South Africa stages a regatta in the warm waters round the beach and a variety of crafts race each other round the picturesque bays.
The annual Granada Square carol service will take place at sunset on 19th December, and you are encouraged to bring an unwrapped gift for local children who won’t have a Christmas present this year without your kind donations.
On Saturday evening from 6pm to midnight, the streets will be closed to allow a family friendly street party to take place. There will be stalls selling lovely things to buy, al fresco dining and live music.
At 6am on 16th December the annual trail run over 18kms takes place starting at the Umhlanga Sands Resort. Entry forms are available from the Umhlanga Tourist Board.
