Ethekwini City officials have warned motorists against tipping the self-appointed pointsmen at the M7/N2 intersection.
It has become a regular occurrence that the traffic lights at this Edwin Swales intersection are out of order, particularly during rush hour.
After investigation, the authorities found that the street vendors who usually operate in this area are responsible. Not only does this cause congestion, inconvenience and costly repairs, but it is also very dangerous.
Similar activity has been seen at the Umgeni Road intersection with the N2.
In a bid to reduce the regularity of these disruptions, please do not tip these unofficial pointsmen. The traffic department will work to get someone there to keep the traffic flowing, but in the meantime, treat the intersection as a four-way stop.
