There are some wonderful offerings out there this year for Valentine’s Day. My favourite two would have to be The Oyster Box and 9th Avenue Bistro.
If your budget is tight, then I would suggest popping up to the Lighthouse Bar for the cocktail of the month: Cupid’s Cocktail ‘Strawberry Caipirovska’ and then home with your beloved full of vodka and Monin strawberry syrup muddled with brown sugar and finished with lime. Delicious and the view is free.
If you are pushing the boat out, head downstairs to the Grill Room to enjoy a seven course dinner so yummy that your partner will be putty in your hands. Linger over the dessert, sit out on the Terrace and listen to the sea, my kind of romance.
If you are based in Durban and don’t want to venture far, 9th Avenue Bistro are pulling out all the stops with their Valentine menu. The prawn, avocado and slow roasted tomato tian with tempura prawn and a glass of bubbly should whet your appetite, and with some of the highlights being the slow-roasted suckling pig with apple and gorgonzola risotto and walnuts, or the crispy calamari as starters, then fillet of beef with white beans and horseradish sauce, or crispy duck…..hungry now.
The desserts are sublime, from chocolate torte to the superb creme brulee, or a rose sorbet with litchi granita and ginger tuiles….and petits fours to finish. I don’t know about you but I am in love already.
Valentine’s dinner at the Oyster Box Grill Room is R590 per person and at 9th Avenue Bistro you can get romantic for R396pp. Book quickly……and if you are only going for a cocktail or the full deal, may you have stars in your eyes all evening.
