From television and movies (the oh-so-profitable Twilight series) to literature (do a Google search for “vampire books,” and you’ll get about 65 million results, “vampire sex” calls up 30 million entries), vampires and their sex lives have sunk their teeth into pop culture in a major way. ABC reports
“Everything is more intense, more dramatic, and more passionate than what one would normally expect,” said writer LA Banks. “It’s a love that can go all night but without the little blue pill.”
Banks is the author of the Vampire Huntress Legends series, a 12-book saga of the underworldly sort. She’s won awards for her work in paranormal fiction; she was featured in the 2008 HBO documentary, Vampire Legends.
“The biting on the neck has to happen,” Banks said. “What it does is it makes the sex something exotic. It makes it terrible and intriguing at the same time.”
Blood need not be drawn, but a bit of red isn’t unsavory. A little – or a lot -of waiting never hurts. Often, the mere anticipation of a romp with an immortal is enough to make a human heart race.
Key to this film and TV explosion has been the fiery romance between on-screen lovers Robert Pattinson and Kirsten Stewart, their chemistry having launched the hugely popular Twilight Saga which in turn has propelled the pair to mega-star status.
And, of course (iAfrica.com reports) it was only a matter of time before SA caught on. Yes, there is a local vampire film set for release in December. Set in inner-city Johannesburg, Eternity tells the tale of Billy (played by Andre Frauenstein), a sensitive, handsome young vampire who spends his nights prowling the city with his friends.
A little about the plot? The vampires appear to lead a charmed life, but Billy yearns for the true love. When he meets Jenny (Rikki Brest), a beautiful and captivating human girl at a nightclub, he is smitten. His easy charm and gentlemanly manner draw Jenny to him and, despite all attempts by Billy’s ex-girlfriend Lisa (Christina Storm), to scupper the budding relationship, Jenny falls for him.
