If you are an admirer of Steven Stead’s fantastic productions, there is a treat waiting for you down at Seabrooke’s Theatre at DHS. Venus in Fur is a play which is currently wowing Broadway, and it is fantastic.
Exploring the themes of domination and the nature of love, this is an adult production with superb acting. There are only two actors on the stage for the entire ninety-five minutes of the play, and both Janna Ramos-Volante and Neil Coppen are wonderful. They hold the audience completely and I have rarely seen a braver, less inhibited performance than that of Janna, extraordinary.
It is completely riveting, and if you are inclined to go to the theatre when you visit other big cities, please support Durban’s increasing wonderful arts scene
and give this a try. It is as good as anything I have seen in London, well done Steven.
