In this HD video the controlled demolition of Cape Town’s Athlone cooling towers makes impressive viewing.
There was some controversy because the towers were exploded three-and-a-half minutes early, but the company responsible for the work said this had been done because of safety issues and an expected downpour. Apparently it’s better to blast in dry weather conditions. The entire explosion took eight seconds.
