The weekend kicked off in fabulous style, with almost 30 000 rugby fans packed into Mr Price Kings Park for the make or break clash between the Sharks and the Bulls. The local lads emerged victorious, pulling off an heroic 32-10 defeat.
According to sharksrugby.co.za: “This was a hugely competitive game played with incredible intensity as The Sharks pushed the Bulls back on their own scrum, stole lineout ball and hammered at them in the contact areas to assert themselves and their intentions from the start. It was wonderful to watch – if you were a Sharks fan. Two tries in 25 minutes as The Sharks built up a decent 17-3 lead showed just what they were capable of, and it was the patience that was really fantastic to see.”
Mr Price Pro Ballito…
Glenn Hall from Ireland claimed the biggest win of his career in the Mr Price Pro Ballito 2012, pipping American Nathaniel Curran in an excellent final day with one to two metre waves at Willard Beach.
The win sees Hall jump from 27th to 16th on the World rankings and take home a prize of US$40 000.
The final day of competition culminated with the best swell of the waiting period as solid 1.5 metre, offshore conditions provided the idyllic arena for an action-packed day of world-class surfing.
South African’s Jordy Smith and Travis Logie placed equal fifth, the pair reaching the Quarterfinals where they were eliminated, Logie by Curran and Smith by Young.

Saturday’s racing showcase was the usual show of glamour and beauty, with plenty of action on the track. Pomodoro created a stir, taking the honours in the main race, despite coming from the widest draw. The 22-1 winner was followed by Smanjemanje, Chesalon and Eton Square, with favourite Jackson coming home towards the back of the field.

Wimbledon 2012…
Further afield, Roger Federer claimed his seventh Wimbledon trophy, beating Andy Murray 4-6, 7-5, 6-3, 6-4 in a highly charged men’s final. This brought the Swiss champion in line with his hero, Pete Sampras, who also won seven Wimbledon titles.
Murray said a tearful thank you to all his supporters after the match, saying “losing never gets easier – you’ve just got to keep trying”.
In the women’s draw, Serena Williams won for the fifth time, equalling her sister Venus’s record. She beat Polish Agnieszka Radwanska 6-1, 5-7, 6-2.
