Westown Embraces Local Equestrian Roots

Westown

Westown, the new city of the west in KZN’s outer west region, has announced its sponsorship of the South African Youth Championships taking place at the Shongweni Club from 10-16 December.

Westown, the new city of the west in KZN’s outer west region, has announced its sponsorship of the South African Youth Championships taking place at the Shongweni Club from 10-16 December. The event will see over 550 horses and ponies from around the country, competing for the prestigious South African titles for juniors under 18 years of age across the equestrian disciplines of show jumping; dressage; equitation and showing.

Westown is a mixed-use precinct of urban and green space and a brand-new destination in the making, that connects people with spaces and experiences. Positioned off the N3 between Pietermaritzburg and Durban, the first phase of the Westown development is situated across the N3 from the Shongweni Club and forms an integral part of the greater Shongweni urban development.

The Shongweni area is well known for its lush green belt and numerous outdoor pursuits, including the equestrian activities that form such an integral part of the fabric of this community. “Our development team understands the value of the open space and ecological assets that define this region, and has designed Westown to integrate with the existing outdoor and lifestyle activities,” says Carlos Correia, CEO of Fundamentum Property Group, the developers of the Westown project.

The sponsorship of the Youth Champs forms part of Westown’s long-term sponsorships of the Shongweni Club and Polo Club and is a commitment to the people and the activities that contribute to the character of the place. “We recognise the profile and prestige the club and it’s multiple activities bring to the area, as well as the significant value of the equestrian community both locally and across the country.  As custodians of the newest chapter of the Shongweni story, this is one of our contributions to its future growth and success.”

This event includes an extensive programme of evening entertainment including live bands, night markets, food and refreshment stalls.
