Botha’s Hill has a new craft store and community hub – the result of two NGOs joining forces to do what they do best – and it’s a must for your Christmas shopping. Woza Moya at Embocraft is a beautiful space featuring quality arts and crafts, with a fresh take on everything from Christmas decorations to jewellery, clothing, ceramics and more.
Embocraft has been based next to Kearsney College since 1986, providing training in computer literacy, sewing, embroidery, welding and woodwork – practical skills that help people to gain employment.
Woza Moya is a project of the Hillcrest Aids Centre Trust and has run a successful retail and training operation in the centre of Hillcrest since 2004. “Like Embocraft, we teach local people practical skills and then provide them with access to market,” says Jess Southey, marketing manager of Woza Moya. “This is a community space, where grassroots crafters are able to display their creations and get a foothold in the local market. Visitors can pop in, enjoy a cup of coffee and browse to their heart’s content or take a seat outside and enjoy the calm surroundings. We are so excited to be able to expand to Botha’s Hill and hope this will stimulate development in the area, encouraging tourists and locals to explore the Valley of 1000 Hills.”
Names to look out for include Lynette Morris Hale, Maggie Matthews, Zulu Lulu, Congo Rose, Rondavel Soap and Ikhiwane Clothing. Plus, you’ll find familiar beadwork and upcycled items by Woza Moya and home textiles by Embocraft crafters. We love their range of unique greeting cards, finished with beading, crochet and wirework.
