Prominent Durban institution, Glenwood High School, celebrated 100 years of existence in style at the ICC on Friday, August 13, 2010.
Glenwood High School’s 100 years dinner was organised by the school in conjunction with old boy John Allan (SA Rugby Legends and former Bok rugby star) and Kim Jackson (Sportsfan Eventing).

The evening started with 100 boys forming a guard of honour for the 800 guests to walk through, meeting and greeting the guests in true Glenwood High School style. Grade 11 pupil Tao Tao entertained the arriving guests in the foyer with classical pieces on the piano. At 7.30 sharp the evening started with master of ceremonies John Allan welcoming the guests.
Headmaster Trevor Kershaw thanked the guests for being part of the occasion, while Head Prefect Gregg Louw spoke about how the school moulded its pupils and gave them all the confidence and strength they needed both inside and outside the classroom.
Current Springbok rugby captain John Smit, who is also celebrating the number 100, with 100 Test caps, was the guest speaker and Smit reiterated the importance of sport at school and brotherhood, as well as the importance of the role played by mentors and coaches at school.
On the entertainment front comedian Aaron McIlroy entertained the crowd, and kept all in attendance in stitches with his razor sharp wit and characterisation. The Danny Fisher Band performed impersonations of Meatloaf and Elvis, to name a few, while the guests put on their dancing shoes and danced the night away.
The evening was enjoyed by the Glenwood family, corporates and prominent guests such as City Manager Dr Michael Sutcliffe. Prominent Glenwood families, such as the Madsens attended, while Anthony Wheeler, a top athlete in the 1960s, flew in from America specially to attend the evening.
The centenary dinner was an excellent way to celebrate a first rate organisation, and 100 years of excellence.
