Statement from Jaco Lotz (MD Crawford Schools™)
On Thursday, August 19, 2010, Jaco Lotz, MD of CrawfordSchools™ announced the temporary closure of two of its campuses. “Crawford teachers are not on strike, but we have taken into account the safety of our students, parents and staff and have decided to close the North Coast and La Lucia campuses for Friday the 20th of August.”
Lotz added that while he shared and supported the view that the standing of teaching and education as a career and profession should be raised, he strongly argued in favour of meritocracy, consumer choice and economic sustainability in ensuring the optimal allocation of resources. “We respect individual freedom of choice, be it to strike or to work, but cannot condone coercion or intimidation of any sort,” he added.
Parents were assured that additional support would be made available to all students to ensure that they do not fall behind in their tuition.
School closures only affected the KwaZulu-Natal campuses of the CrawfordSchools™ group.
“We are monitoring the situation on an ongoing basis and will continue to act in the best interests of our students, staff and parents, “said Lotz.
