Thousands of students around the country wait in anticipation of their matric results, while education ministers express their satisfaction with development in schools.
The Independent Examinations Board (IEB) reported a pass rate of 98%, with 80% of entrants qualifying for university entrance.
Umalusi, the council for quality assurance in general and further education and training, said the IEB examinations were “valid, fair and credible,” chairman Sizwe Mabizela told reporters in Pretoria. “Umalusi is satisfied that nothing has been compromised.”
8281 candidates wrote IEB examinations in 60 subjects, two of which were not National Senior Certificate subjects.
Mabizela said that for 45 subjects the raw marks had been accepted, while for five subjects the marks were moderated upwards. The remaining 10 had their marks decreased.
The matric pass rate will be announced at 7.30pm on Wednesday, 4 January 2012. Individual results will be published in newspapers on Thursday.
