Our best loved Bistro, the inimitable 9th Avenue triumphed at the Eat Out Awards in Capetown winning the Best Bistro in South Africa award.
Although most foodies in Durban will already know the wonderful food being created by Graham and Gina on a daily basis, it’s wonderful to see them being acknowledged like this on a National scale.
If you are looking for a restaurant in the European tradition of the Chef being the crucial element then this is the place for you. There are so many restaurants in Durban and the surrounds serving generic food which has little to do with the Chef’s ability in the kitchen. So for me restaurants like 9th Avenue deserve our support and custom.
Careful menu planning, using ingredients that are in season, and wonderful service are all crucial, and 9th gets them all right, but the crucial element for a meal at this level really is the kitchen.
Whether it is Jackie Cameron up at Hartford House, Marco Nico at La Storia, Paul Shephard at Marco Paulo or the gifted combination of Gina and Graham at 9th, we should all be supporting these wonderful, talented and growing collection of genuine culinary achievers.
Try it next time you are going out for a treat, go for the food, you won’t be disappointed. In the meantime, well done Gina and Graham, what an achievement!
