In July 2018, Gooderson DumaZulu Lodge and Traditional Village experienced a large fire which caused extensive damage at the popular resort. The dining room, the bar, the conference room, the boma and the kitchen were completely destroyed by the blaze.

The dining area was constructed around what once was the focal shady tree in the outdoor seating area. All the décor, from lighting to the huge painting in the dining room was created by local artists and crafters and the finished design is bright, airy, authentic, open and truly welcoming,” says CEO, Gavin Castleman.

I recently went on a trip to DumaZulu and can honestly say that it’s all it’s cracked up to be! We experienced a spectacular game drive (where we saw 3 of the Big 5), visited the bird and reptile park (where I got to hold a huge Burmese python) and had an amazing tour of the Zulu village. They also have braai facilities, a swimming pool and jungle gym for kids. Tours and cruises on the nearby Lake St Lucia can also be arranged for those wishing to explore the game reserves of Zululand (Hluhluwe/Umfolozi and the Isimangaliso Wetland Park).
