Remember the good old days of “Braaivleis, rugby, sunny skies and….”? Well, The Gee Jays (Gary McKenzie, John Didlick and Grant Bell) are back, by popular demand, with a new and hilarious sequel to their smash hit show, “Don’t Tune Me – Ek Sê”. The show is on at The Heritage Theatre from 19 November to 31 December.
The line-up, together with the usual madcap antics, will have you rolling in the aisles as well as remembering what you were doing when these discs were being spun, back in the day. If these songs take you back… Mellow Yellow, I Hear You Knocking, Man on the Moon, Beautiful Sunday, Bad Moon Rising, Free Electric Band, I’d Love You to Want Me, Wichita Lineman and Kung Fu Fighting and jog a fond memory for you (or your kids), then this show is for you. They are all the tunes we have a soft spot for – even if we never admit it.
Great 70s artists like The Bee Gees, Credence Clearwater Revival, Albert Hammond, Mungo Jerry, Elton John, Three Dog Night, and Elvis are featured. Not to mention some of the many great South African bands who made it big in the 70s, like The Bats, Ballyhoo, Rabbit, Copperfield and McCully Workshop and even Pip Friedman! Once again, The Gee Jays are backed by some very talented musos in Andy Turrell (guitar), Jill Murraybrown (bass), and Francois Hardy (drums). The musical director is Calli Thomson on keyboards.
