A Country Break at Brahman Hills

By Mums Mail Magazine29/10/20193 Mins Read

My husband and I were recently invited to experience a weekend at Brahman Hills in the KZN Midlands. I can honestly say it was the most relaxing weekend I’ve had since having our son six years ago! We left our son with Granny for the weekend and off we went!
We stayed in one of the self-catering cottages at Springholm, a short drive from the main hotel. It is the most beautiful setting, with abundant bird life and glorious peace and quiet! Our cottage was right on the dam and the view was spectacular, especially at sunset.

If you are looking for a place to unwind and get away from the city life, this is definitely the place to go. We enjoyed peaceful walks around the dam and relaxing evenings on our deck.

Springholm offers a selection of self-catering cottages and B&B rooms. The accommodation is nestled around a large dam in a valley on the Blue Crane Nature Reserve – which is teeming wildlife and free roaming Brahman cattle. The cottages and rooms have been tastefully decorated and equipped with quality utilities. All guests at Springholm have unrestricted access to the facilities at Brahman Hills.

We were also treated to a luxurious 90 minute spa treatment at Brahman Hills Spa– Dave had a full body hot stone massage with a detox bath, and I had a pampering 90 minute facial and shoulder massage. We were so spoilt and the therapists are amazing – I can’t wait to go back there!

There is a variety of dining options at Brahman Hills, and we tried most of them! We had a delicious dinner at Brahman Hills Café on the first night – this venue is a more casual dining area where families will feel at home, and the food was lovely. On the Saturday night we were in for a real treat – we were invited to dine at 89 on Copper. Situated in the wine cellar, it can seat 26 guests. You can choose from the Brahman Cafe Menu, or opt for the highlight – the Chef’s Selection Menu – which is what we got to taste. The food was superb, and the atmosphere lent itself to a romantic date night, which we so seldom get to enjoy! We enjoyed decadent three-course meal and a bottle of wine.

Before leaving on the Sunday, we were treated AGAIN to a Sunday carvery lunch at The Stables. This was amazing and the choice of food was lovely. It was a great way to end off a fantastic weekend!

Overall our stay at Brahman Hills was memorable – our accommodation was comfortable (I especially enjoyed sleeping in in the mornings under the luxurious duvet), the food was delicious, the staff were friendly and accommodating, and most of all, it was just so relaxing!

There are a variety of accommodation options at Brahman Hills, so check out their website to find out more.
