In this fast-paced, ever-changing world, many people develop addictions to relieve themselves from the day to day pressures that surround them, only to find that instead of escaping pressure, they simply added to their problems.
Addiction does not mean that one is just using substances; it means that one has formed a habit of repeating the same behaviour over and over again, to their detriment.
Apart from substance abuse, addictions can include over-eating, narcissism, pornography, social networking, gaming, under-eating (controlling body image), excessive sleeping, excessive exercise, shouting / controlling (the need for constant drama), bullying, cutting (self-harm), embellishing the truth out of a need to be accepted. Physical abuse often follows these addictions, as well as crime when it comes to using intoxicants.
When looking at this list, one discovers that most are addicted to self-sabotaging behaviours. Homes and families are indeed suffering and children are the common victims, often carrying the legacy over to their generation. Children as young as 11 are now struggling with addiction
Addiction is an issue which affects the entire community, as rehabilitation facilities are often full, leaving those who cannot afford treatment to suffer in silence, often unable to change their practised behaviours and continuing a downward spiral. When there is one addict in the family, the whole family can and often does fall apart.
The time has arrived when we the community need to gather knowledge and past wisdom so that we may best help each other create a new way of tackling the day to day problems that exist within homes and our personal lives.
Join us at this event to discover what it is you can do to begin removing the shadow of fear from your lives and enable yourself and others to live strong and fulfilling lives.
