Tony de Sousa, Durban’s most relaxed restauranteur manages to make every meal a triumph seemingly without breaking a sweat. This wonderful La Lucia gem produces food that is consistent and imaginative, not to mention incredibly good value.
Every since Tony catered my husband’s 40th Birthday party three years ago I have loved his food. On Friday night we went for dinner and ordered two seafood platters…..wow. Langoustines, calamari, mussels, prawns, clams, garlic butter, all on a bed of rice, and all perfect.
I have eaten seafood all over the world, and I have often thought that the one thing the Indian Ocean can’t do as well as the North Sea is seafood, all too often it lacks taste and the texture that our cold waters seem to produce, but Tony proves me wrong every time. This is a seafood platter as good as Twelve Apostles in Capetown.
If you are looking for a perfect pizza, an ambiance second to none, and a restaurant where you can hold a conversation without shouting across the table (I think it’s my age…) then this is the place to go.
Their lunchtime specials, the spaghetti vongole (spaghetti with clams) or the gnocci, not forgetting the tripe casserole or half baby chicken, all for R55 are remarkable. Visit, eat, enjoy.
