Albany Bakeries is bringing Durban Foodies some Albany Freshness at the Good Food and Wine Show
Durban foodies are in for a treat this weekend as the Good Food and Wine Show rolls into town. The expo will dish up a wonderful array of events and appearances featuring some of the world’s most dynamic culinary personalities, along with a bright new face or two.
Headline attractions include an ensemble of local and international styles and flavours, including the UK’s Rick Stein, Australian Master Chef winner Brent Owens, “Curry Queen of Bling” Yudhika Sujanani and Jenny Morris, South Africa’s own gigging gourmet.
From celebrity chef cooking demonstrations to food and wine tastings and kids’ workshops, there is something on the itinerary for everyone – including those addicted to cooking gadgets and gourmet ingredients. The ever popular Celebrity Chefs’ Theatre is sure to be a big hit, along with the Albany Baking Theatre, the Kyknet Kokkedoor, the Disney Fun and Food Zone and theDecadent Desserts Theatre.
Albany – a headline sponsor – has taken time out from its own bakery to head to the ICC Convention Centre and add its touch to the weekend’s magic.
“We’re delighted to support and be part of this amazing event,” says Albany Brand Manager, Alanta Moodley. “We at Albany Bakeries believe that bread forms the heart of every meal and what better way to allow families and friends to feel the Albany freshness than at Durban’s finest Food and Wine show. There are so many highlights for us, including Sherwyn Weaich’s appearance at the Baking Theatre. He’s a dynamic personality, and a wonderful cook too. He will be demonstrating great recipes using Albany bread fresh from our Bakery.”
Weaich has been a regular on the South African culinary circuit over the last five years. He has featured on popular TV shows like Master Chef South Africa and The Ultimate Braai Master, while his website, The Gourmet Bushie, offers the public ongoing insight into his adventures with food. Weaich will be demonstrating how to make bread pudding and other assorted deliciousnesses at the Baking Theatre.
Another highlight is the appearance of the upcoming Albany Guest Chef, Aasiyah Williams. Aasiyah, who wrote her first cook book at the tender age of nine, will appear at the Albany exhibition stand over all three days of the show, where she will demonstrate a variety of unique recipes that can be done with Albany Bread.
“Aasiyah is a bit of a baking phenomenon really, and it’s been fantastic for all of us at Albany to have her so enthusiastic about cooking with our bread and allowing us to be exposed to her amazing career,” says Moodley. “We’re really looking forward to experiencing (and tasting!) what she has to present.”
